Welcome to Episode 21 of the Rogue Startups Podcast. This week Dave and Craig are catching up on new developments in SupportVine and PodcastMotor. Both businesses are developing rapidly and gaining steam as they go. The next few weeks will prove interesting for both businesses.
Dave is working on doing a mock launch on Product Hunt with a shell company in order to get some early feedback in the support space. This feedback and customer interaction will the the basis for what marketing approaches Support Vine takes when it goes to market. Dave used a tool called StartupLister that helps list your new app on almost 60 different startup focused websites.
PodcastMotor is growing quickly and is having good success with hiring talented team members. There’s proving to be a good model for hiring good freelancers, which often times includes a little bit of autonomy, but also an early challenge of executing the key task of a job. These things along with good communication is forming the basis for Craig’s hiring process at PodcastMotor.
One thing we’re realizing is that we’re all wired a little differently than the rest of the crowd. Who in their right mind would leave a comfortable day job to embark upon this wild journey of starting a new, self-funded business? We see so much enticement to starting a new venture, solving unique problems in new ways, and bringing value to customers.
But along with this also comes the stress of the challenges that running a business entails. Acknowledging this stress, managing it effectively, and minimizing it are keys to continuing on this path as an entrepreneur.
